In 1949, Meny was named pastor of St. Patrick’s Church in Madison where he served for 40 years. During his time as a priest, Meny served as the superintendent of Shawe Memorial Junior-Senior High School and Pope John XXIII Elementary School. He also served at the Vevay parish of the Most Sorrowful Mother of God Church.
In 1988, the high school gym was named after Meny, and he received an honorary diploma from the school along with the Golden Shamrock Award for special service.
Prince of Peace Schools president Phil Kahn said that organizers are planning a “way to recognize all that Father Meny has done for our school and our community.
“Father Meny was crucial to the beginning of Shawe and Pope John’s campus being established in the 50s and 60s. He was a big part of the Madison community for the 40-plus years he was here and still has a lasting impact,” Kahn said.
Meny was ordained to the priesthood on May 14, 1940. He retired from active priesthood in 1990, and moved back to Haubstadt.
A celebration of life Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Haubstadt.
