Madison Consolidated High School's FFA agriculture communications team placed first last week at the FFA state convention.

The first-place showing advanced the team to the FFA national convention that will be hosted in Louisville in October.

According to Amanda Briggs, FFA adviser at Madison, it is the first time the school has won the state competition.

"Last year the group came in second (at state)," Briggs said.

The agriculture communications team is led by Makenzie Deputy, Katy McFarland and Shea Elswick. The three students had to submit a proposal for a media plan and give a presentation explaining the plan to judges at the state convention, held at Purdue University.

Briggs said the students came up with the idea for an advertising campaign for the farmers market in downtown Madison.

"The neat thing about it is, the farmers market is going to use part of stuff they created. So, it's not just for contest," Briggs said.

At the convention, the group of students also had to create a media plan on the spot for a scenario the judges created.

The FFA national convention is Oct. 30 through Nov. 2 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in downtown Louisville.
