Madison Police officers arrested Wilfredo Aponte Perez, 27, Madison, Thursday afternoon on charges of burglary, theft and possession of a controlled substance.

Perez was arrested after police received a call about a suspicious person in the 500 block of Aulenbach Avenue. The subject was detained after Captain Dan Stephan and Patrolman Jeremy Cox observed him near a creek in the area. Perez refused to answer questions while being detained, but was identified later.

The caller gave details about seeing a subject walk around a house in the area and return carrying a bag. When Perez was apprehended he did not have a bag with him. It was located near where officers observed him enter the creek area.

The owner of the residence was contacted and later identified the items in the bag. Some items were labeled with the resident's name.
