A Deputy man was sentenced in Jefferson Circuit Court on Wednesday to eight years in state prison as part of a plea agreement with the state on a methamphetamine charge.

William Milburn, 40, of 1015 N. County Road 1525-W, pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute it, a Class B felony.

The maximum sentence Milburn could have received was 20 years.

Milburn's formal sentencing is set for 11 a.m. Dec. 3 in circuit court.

Jefferson County Prosecutor Chad Lewis said Milburn was arrested Dec. 28, 2009, after an investigation by Madison Police Sgt. Jonathan Simpson resulted in a search of Milburn's residence. Simpson was assisted by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department and the Indiana State Police.

Lewis said Milburn was arrested for a methamphetamine-related charge in Jackson County soon after posting bond for the methamphetamine charge in Jefferson County.

Milburn posted bond in Jackson County but was back in the Jefferson County Jail Sept. 1 after his local bond was revoked because of the arrest in Jackson County.
