Indiana State Police arrested a Madison man on allegations he struck a 7-year-old boy.
Omar Santamaria, 32, of Madison, was arrested on charges of neglect of a dependent, a Class C felony, and battery, a Class D felony.
Det. Kip Main with Indiana State Police received a report from Southwestern Elementary School of child abuse earlier this month. The alleged victim was crying and had a swollen face, eye and lip, according to the probable cause affidavit.
Dr. Holly Robinson with King's Daughters' Hospital analyzed the wounds and came to the conclusion they were consistent with "non-accidental trauma" and "highly suspicious for physical abuse," according to the affidavit.
Santamaria is being held at the Jefferson County Jail on a $2,000-cash bond.
