The Madison Police Department announced Tuesday that a public ceremony will be held for police K-9 Laykos on Thursday.
Maj. Jeremey Perkins said there will be a visitation at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre beginning at 5 p.m. with a eulogy delivered by department chaplain J.D. Traylor at 6 p.m.
The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 128 will also conduct services at 6 p.m.
Laykos died July 31 after doctors discovered tumors on his spleen. He was 8 years old.
In honor of Laykos, Bridges for Animals is asking for donations of at least $1 to the Laykos Memorial Fund. All money raised will go to the Madison Police Department to help secure the services of a qualified K-9 officer.
BFA will match the first $500. Donations are being accepted through Aug. 31, and may be mailed to Bridges for Animals, P.O. Box 1305, Madison, IN 47250.
Memorial gifts also may be made to the Madison Police Department.
