Milton Fire and Rescue asking for donations to replace sign

The public information sign at Milton Fire and Rescue Station 1 has provided the community with many years of service, but the time has come to replace it.
The former public information sign was old, Chief Jason Long said, but the department had continued to repair it for years. Yet storms, in addition to being run over by semi-trucks and other vehicles, caused enough damage that the sign couldn't be repaired again.
Now Milton Fire and Rescue seeks the community's help in purchasing a new sign that will allow the department to keep the area up-to-date on local information and events. The department hopes to be able to raise enough funds through donations to purchase a digital sign to replace the old public information sign, but digital signs aren't cheap.
Long said the least expensive model for a digital sign could still cost about $9,000.
"We can put any (information) on there," Long said. "But they're very expensive."
As a donations-only service, the department can't afford to replace the sign without the community's help.
Even if the department doesn't reach their fundraising goal for a digital sign, another type of sign will be purchased with the donations to keep the community updated of events and information.
Any donation will be accepted, and all donations are tax-deductible. Donations are accepted online at www.gofundme.com/1lj02w. Donations also will be accepted at the fire station.
