A young child and a dog were found uninjured after wandering off together into a wooded area in Milton on Tuesday.
The 3-year-old child had been missing for about 45 minutes when Trimble County rescue personnel received a missing person call around 11:30 a.m., Milton Fire Chief Jason Long said. Within 15 minutes of beginning a ground and air search at the location, the child and the dog were found about one-half mile from the home located in the 4800 block of U.S. 421.
Rescue crews responded to the location where emergency personnel began searching the wooded area behind the home on foot, while Air Methods KY-11 flew over the area to search for the child.
The aerial search team first found the dog before locating the child nearby and directed the ground search team to the area.
"It could have been a whole lot worse," Long said of the situation. "Air Methods played a huge role in (the search)."
Milton and Bedford fire crews were assisted at the scene by Air Methods, Trimble County Sheriff's Office, Trimble County Search and Rescue Unit and Trimble County EMS.
