The Madison Regatta Festival is fast approaching and race officials are busy at work ironing out the last-minute details.
Madison Regatta, Inc. held one of its final general membership meetings Wednesday at the VFW Post 1969 and chairpersons reported no serious issues.
"We're getting closer and closer to Regatta week and this is the time to get things done," Regatta President Kim Washer said. "We've been doing great so far."
The biggest issue to arise out of the meeting remains the lack of participants for the Regatta's four scholarship pageants. Only seven young ladies have signed up to compete in the Little Miss, Miss Preteen and Miss Madison Regatta pageants while eight have signed on to compete in the Miss Teen pageant.
The deadline for all four pageants is Friday, after which no applications will be accepted. To apply, visit the Regatta's website at www.madisonregatta.com.
In addition, the Regatta is still seeking participants in its newest event, a volleyball tournament, to be held Saturday, July 6 in conjunction with the Unlimited hydroplane race. The cost of entry is $25 and players can sign up on the Regatta website.
In other business:
Admission wristbands are now on sale throughout the Madison area. The cost for wristbands is $20 prior to June 30 and $25 after that date. They are good for all three days of race weekend, as well as the music events on Wednesday and Thursday of race week.
Wristbands can be purchased at: The Bottle Shop, Cork-N-Bottle, CVS Pharmacy (both Madison and Hanover locations), Fillin' Station Liquors, Hanover Liquors, Kroger, the Madison Convention & Visitor's Bureau, the Madison Regatta office, MainSource Bank, Northside Liquors, River Valley Financial Bank and Riverside Produce.
The Madison Regatta has entered into an agreement with the Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Ky. The Regatta will have a presence in the fan zone portion of the Speedway during the Quaker State 400 later this month and fans can also purchase 20 percent off discount tickets to the NASCAR race.
To get the discount, go to kentuckyspeedway.com/QS400 and enter coupon code "Victory." The discount expires June 25.
A meeting for all organizations that will be working admission gates has been tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, June 18 at 5:30 p.m. at the Regatta office on Vaughn Drive.
Applications are still be accepted for event staff. If interested, visit the Regatta office on Vaughn Drive.
RV spots are still available although they are going fast. To secure a spot, visit the Regatta office on Vaughn Drive, call the office at (812) 274-0400, or visit the website at www.madisonregatta.com.
