Madison Regatta officials are working on the festival schedule for this year and several changes are expected.
The biggest change involves the annual scholarship pageants, which will not be held this year. Because of the cancellation of last year's race due to high water, the winners of each of those events will be carried over to this year.
As a result, Regatta officials need to place events in those pageant dates. The Miss Madison Regatta Pageant is held on Monday of race week while the Little Miss, Miss Preteen and Miss Teen pageants are held the Saturday prior.
One possible change of date involves the waterball fight, which might be moved from Wednesday to Tuesday.
The Regatta is also considering several new events, such as a golf tournament sponsored by Belterra Casino and Resort and held at Belterra and a rubber duck regatta that would be held at Crystal Beach and put on by the City of Madison Parks Department.
Dates of those events have yet to be finalized.
"We're hopeful that by this time next month we would have the schedule finalized," Madison Regatta President Tim Torrance said. "That is my goal and I know that it is (Festival Chair) Kim Washer's goal as well."
Regatta officials are also in the process of lining up possible title sponsorship deals. Torrance and several officers recently met with Belterra Casino and have a meeting scheduled with Hollywood Casino as well.
Torrance said that any possible deals were in their infancy and that no decision is expected soon.
"I really can't comment on anything because there isn't much to talk about yet," Torrance said. "We are in the extremely preliminary stages right now. We hope to know something by the end of the month."
In other business:
The Madison Regatta and the Oberto/Miss Madison Race Team will have a presence at this year's Kentucky Derby Festival in Louisville.
The Miss Madison's official display boat will be on hand at Thunder over Louisville next Saturday and will also take part in the Pegasus Parade.
The Regatta is seeking volunteers from its members to help run the events. If interested, contact sponsorship chair Scott Tebbe.
Safety & Rescue is still in need of a pontoon boat to help with setup of the race course. If interested, contact the Regatta through the organization's website, www.madisonregatta.com.
Regatta's two-day plan could be widely adopted
