Work is being completed on the roof of the former Elks Lodge, according to a status report filed in Jefferson Circuit Court.

The status was submitted Nov. 30 by John Eckert, who represents the Cornerstone Society in a lawsuit regarding proposed demolition of the building that was gutted by a 2006 fire.

The progress report said a significant amount of charred metal from the back of the building has been removed and new metal has been formed for the roof and exterior structure.

Metal panels will be hoisted to the roof using a pulley system.

The report said temperature is not a factor, so work can be expected to continue until the roof is finished.
