Ripley teen dies when buggy, truck collide
Friday, September 27, 2013 11:00 AM
A Ripley County teenager died Thursday after he was killed in a horse and buggy accident.
Daniel X. Stoltzfus Jr., 18, of Versailles, was northbound on U.S. 421 near County Road 450-S in Ripley County when his buggy crossed into the southbound lane for unknown reasons, according to a news release from the Indiana State Police.
After crossing the center line, the buggy collided with a pick-up truck driven by Wilma E. Asher, 53, Versailles, police said.
The impact killed the horse and ejected Stoltzfus into the road, where police believe he was struck by two vehicles, driven by Jeffrey W. Clippert, 54, of Madison, and Chester R. Swinney, 54, Versailles.
None of the other drivers were injured in the crash, which remains under investigation.
The crash is being investigated by Trooper Matt Holley.
