Road construction may cause traffic delays, lane closures
Courier Staff Report
Tuesday, April 15, 2014 11:00 AM
Planned road construction on Carrollton's Park Avenue may cause traffic delays and lane closures while crews work during weekends.
Workers plan to begin work on the road May 1. Crews will remove the center median from Fisher Avenue to Schuerman Street and build a new turn lane, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 6 Chief District Engineer Rob Hans said in a release.
Lane closures and traffic control will be in place on weekends beginning at 9 p.m. on Fridays until 5 a.m. on Mondays. Weekday construction will not include lane closures, but travelers should be aware of crews and equipment in the area throughout the project, the release said.
"This project...will include pavement surface rehabilitation as well as adding a two-way left turn lane," Hans said in the release. "When finished, this section of roadway will be more durable and will provide a safer and smoother ride for all those who travel through this area."
There will be no work scheduled for race weekend at the Kentucky Speedway over June 27 through June 29 or during the July 4 weekend.
Hinkle Contracting Company of Paris was awarded the low-bid contract of $344,428.
Completion date for the project is Aug. 1.
