Several mothers received a special Christmas surprise following Sunday services at the Madison Assembly of God.

Each week, nearly 45 children from single-parent homes attend church services as part of a community ministry where Mia Tran, a member of the Madison Assembly of God, picks up children from the Presidential and Windridge areas for church services. Mothers of the children that are part of the ministry were treated to a meal plus gift bags from various businesses during Christmas Dream Day.

The day was to encourage the mothers who support their children by themselves, Tran said, something that hits close to home for her. Tran was raised by a single mother, before being placed in multiple foster homes as a child.

Tran said she often reminds the children who participate in the ministry that they have a lot to be thankful for, including a parent who loves them and often makes sacrifices for them.
