King's Daughters' Health officials ask the community to be aware of changes this weekend as the hospital moves staff, services and patients to the new hospital Saturday.
The new hospital building at 1373 E. State Road 62 opens for patient care at 7 a.m. The transport of patients from the downtown hospital to the new hospital also will begin at 7 a.m.
The Emergency Department at the new hospital will open at 7 a.m. Emergency services at the downtown hospital will stop when the new facility opens, spokesman Dave Ommen said.
After 7 a.m., any patient needing emergency medical attention should go to the new hospital facility, a release said. Any patient needing EMS transport also will be taken to the hilltop hospital for emergency services after 7 a.m.
With planning that has been in the works for more than a year, several ambulances from the surrounding area will assist in the transport of patients from the downtown hospital to the new building, Ommen said. The move is expected to be completed by early afternoon.
The phone number for the new hospital will be (812) 801-0800. The number will be activated once the move is complete, the release said.
Once all patients from the downtown facility have arrived at the new hospital, the downtown building will be closed for patient care, the release said.
