Switzerland County under a Level 2 Emergency
Friday, January 08, 2010 6:00 AM
As of 5 a.m. today the Switzerland County Board f Commissioners declared a Level 2 State of Emergency for all of Switzerland County. All citizens are called upon to comply with necessary security measures.
A Level 2 Emergency indicates that conditions are threatening to the safety of the public. Only essential traffic is recommended.
Do not call 911 unless it is to report a life threatening emergency, all other calls including road information requests should use the non-emergency number, (812) 427-3636.
During the emergency power outages should be reported to a local service provider, and not to 911, unless life sustaining medical equipment that requires electric power is involved.
The Switzerland County Board of Commissioners has requested that all off duty public safety responders continue to report by phone or radio to their departments as necessary for possible extra duty.
Volunteers who wish to offer assistance such as snowmobiles, 4-wheel drive vehicles or Hummers should contact the Switzerland County Emergency Operations Center at (812) 599-7640.
