Homes in Hanover and Brooksburg sustained substantial fire damage over the holiday weekend.
Friday evening, an apparent electrical fire broke out at 530 Hickory Drive in Hanover and caused heavy damage to the home's interior. No injuries were reported.
Jamie Hall, assistant fire chief for Hanover Township Fire Department, said the fire started about 9 p.m. in a wall in the kitchen and quickly engulfed much of the house. The Jefferson County Assessor's Office lists the home as owned by Kenneth and Pauline Bruther.
"That place was so full of insulation that it just took off," Hall said.
The pattern and source of the fire suggested it was spurred by an electrical problem, he added.
Hall said crews had to tear down much of ceiling inside the home to fight the blaze. He estimated the structure was a total loss.
The Hanover Fire Department was assisted by the Kent Fire Department.
Unrelated to the fire, Hickory Drive residents are under a water boil advisory until Wednesday. The advisory stems from a water main break on Friday afternoon, before the fire was reported.
On Saturday, crews responded to a structure fire on East Vernon Ridge Road in Brooksburg. The exact address and homeowner were not included in police records.
Milton Township Fire Department responded to the blaze and was assisted by Switzerland County Moorefield Volunteer Fire Department.
Jefferson County dispatch received four calls reporting that the structure was fully involved. However, at press time, emergency officials could not be reached for further details about the blaze.
I am glad I read about the house fire, otherwise I would not have known about the boil water advisory, which had NOTHING to do with the fire! smh
