An all-day volleyball tournament is the newest festival event planned by the Madison Regatta, the organization announced on Wednesday.

The volleyball tournament will be held the Saturday of race weekend, July 6. The cost is $25 per person. Applications will be available online at within the week.

The volleyball tournament replaces the bed race which was dropped this year due to lack of interest. The bed race was traditionally held on Tuesday of race week and as of now, there is no event scheduled for that day.

The Madison Regatta Festival officially begins Saturday, May 25 with the annual car show. Race week festivities begin Saturday, June 29.

In other news:

• The Madison Regatta was scheduled to announce a title sponsor, a fireworks sponsor and the parade grand marshal at a press conference today at 2 p.m. Full coverage of the event can be found at and in Friday's edition of The Madison Courier.

• Admission wristbands are expected to be available at area business by the middle of the month.

• Hospitality tents are still available. Prices of the tents range from $1,000 and up, and they can be secured by visiting the Regatta's website at

• Elections for the 2014 race were held on Wednesday. Jeff Chandler, currently the Regatta's treasurer, was voted as vice-president and will serve as the organization's president for the 2015 race.

Pat Brooks, currently race chairman, was elected treasurer while Jacob Lowry was elected as race chairman. Carolyn Fischer will serve as secretary, Kim Washer, the current president, will be the festival chairman, and Buddy Gaw will serve as assistant race chairman.

The Regatta also elected four new members to its board of directors. Mike Adams, John Knoebel, Jackie Thacker and Joe Voll will join current board members Dan Cole, Nate Davis, Josh Gourley, Mike Heitz, Tommy Lowrey, Angie Parks, Mike Stucker and Brent Thacker.

• The next Regatta meeting will be Wednesday, June 5 at 7 p.m. at the VFW Post 1969. The Regatta will hold meetings weekly from there until race weekend.
