Courier Staff Report
Tuesday, March 05, 2013 7:00 AM
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department determined the cause of an accident last week on Clifty Drive.
Kevin Stadter, 17, of Phillips, Wis., told deputies who responded to the scene that he was heading toward Hanover on State Road 62 when his brakes failed, sending him through an intersection at State Road 256. After speeding up in an attempt to avoid hitting another vehicle, Stadter's Chevrolet Impala was struck by a Ford Expedition heading eastbound, driven by Tiffany L. Leons, 30, of Madison.
Both drivers were taken to King's Daughters' Hospital and treated for non-lifethreatening injuries.
The Impala sustained heavy damage to the passenger's side, but Stadter was the only occupant in the vehicle. Leons had juvenile passengers in her vehicle, but according to deputies, they were not injured.
