A Madison woman was sentenced to four years in prison Friday after pleading guilty to stealing a check from the Prince of Peace Catholic Center.

Tracy Bryant, 32, pleaded guilty to forgery, a Class C felony, and being a habitual offender.

Bryant admitted during her sentencing hearing she took a check from the community center so she could use the money to buy heroin. She said she had been using drugs and alcohol since she was 13 years old.

Officers were called to the Prince of Peace Catholic Center in April after Bryant took a check for $285 and tried to cash it at a local bank, according to police.

Bryant will serve four years at the Indiana Department of Correction and then will spend six years on probation for a total sentence of 10 years.
