Absentee voting started Tuesday for Indiana's May primary elections.

Secretary of State Connie Lawson says voting will last through May 5, one day before primary election day. Voters casting their absentee ballot in person have until May 5. If they mail it in, requests for a ballot must be filed by April 28.

The Jefferson County Voter Registration office is in the Courthouse, room 203 or call (812) 265-8926 for information.

In 2012, 120,000 voters cast absentee ballots. Lawson said Monday she hopes that number increases this year. She is also encouraging voters to use new voting centers.
