ROUTINE BRIDGE INSPECTION
Friday, January 11, 2013 10:00 AM
Inspection crews gather on the deck of the Madison-Milton bridge after completing their work Thursday morning. The bridge was limited to one lane of traffic during the inspection. Monthly inspections are scheduled until the new bridge is opened later this year. (Staff photo by Ken Ritchie)
Here's the latest on the Madison-Milton bridge project:
Bolt-up work on truss spans 1 and 4 has resumed and is expected to take several more weeks.
Scour protection continues and excavation at pier 4 is scheduled to be complete soon. The next step is to install rock at piers 3 and 4 before moving on to pier 5. (Scour is caused by swiftly moving water past the piers and can cause erosion.)
Crews will be installing the mid-barge impact frame at pier 3.
Conduit for lighting is being installed on the Madison approach.
Workers are preparing for a concrete pour on span A of the Milton approach.
Work on the sidewalk ramp on the Madison side is on hold until spring due to the earthwork involved and the wet soil conditions.
