The Department of Veterans Affairs announced Friday morning it plans to open a state-of-the-art, VA Healthcare Center in Carrollton.
The Veterans Affairs Healthcare Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday with the exception of holidays.
To make an appointment or to ask questions, call (502) 287-5046 or (502) 287-5047.
VA officials said that by putting health care facilities in more communities, the VA is enhancing veterans' access to good health care.
The new VA Healthcare Center is temporarily located at the Carroll County Memorial Hospital and will provide primary care and mental health services, by appointment, to veterans residing in Carroll County and the surrounding areas.
The Carroll County Memorial Hospital is located at 309 11th St., in Carrollton. Veterans may call (502) 287-5046 or (502) 287-5047 for additional information or to schedule an appointment.
It is anticipated that renovations to the permanent clinic location at 1901 KY 227 in Carrollton - in the former Traderbakers building - will be complete by the end of the year.
At that time, the VA Healthcare Center will provide primary care, mental health care and other preventative and ancillary services.
A team of approximately 25 VA health care professionals will staff the clinic, which will be open between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, with the exception of holidays.
VA Healthcare Center will bring the number of Louisville VAMC's Community Based Outpatient Clinics to seven.
VA Healthcare Center will open on Tuesday in Scott County, Ind., bringing the final number to eight.
