WORK CONTINUES ON WIDENING BRIDGE PIERS
Thursday, November 14, 2013 10:00 AM
A worker, top, climbs a ladder to the small walkway at the top of the pier cap form on Wednesday. Another worker, bottom, takes hold of rods of rebar as they are lowered by a crane inside the form for the pier three cap on the Madison-Milton Bridge on Wednesday. With the form in place, a tight grid of rebar is installed before the concrete is poured. The rebar reinforces the strength of the finished product. The tops of the piers are being widened to accommodate the load of the new, wider bridge superstructure, which is currently set atop temporary piers. Once the pier caps are widened, the bridge will be slid into place. (Staff photos by Ken Ritchiefirstname.lastname@example.org)
