Bedford man facing murder charge asks for bond reduction

A Bedford man facing a murder charge appeared in Oldham Circuit Court on Thursday where his lawyers entered a motion to reduce his bond.
Robert Baldwin III, 26, is currently incarcerated at the Oldham County jail on a $1 million bond. Baldwin is accused of killing 24-year-old Angela Long at her home in November 2013.
Baldwin's public defenders - Joanne Lynch and Melanie Lowe - submitted paperwork for a bond reduction during the pretrial conference, which was held in LaGrange for security reasons.
Commonwealth's attorney Courtney Baxter said she plans to file a response to the motion, saying Baldwin should not be entitled to a bond reduction hearing because of the severity of the charges.
Circuit Court Judge Karen Conrad said Baldwin would be entitled to the hearing, and a decision on the motion could be made at that time.
A date for the bond reduction hearing will be set at a later time.
Conrad also told Baldwin and the attorneys that a trial date may be set to get lab results completed a little faster. The lab currently has a long wait-list for results and a trial date could expedite the process, Conrad said.
"They respond to whoever has the most need," she said.
Lynch told the judge there was a large amount of paperwork and discovery in the case already - about 20 to 30 CDs and DVDs - to go over and discuss before a trial.
Conrad said any trial date could be reconsidered if the attorneys need more time.
Conrad set a second pretrial conference date of July 3. The hearing will be held at 9 a.m. in Oldham Circuit Court, where the judge plans to set a tentative trial date.
