Officials plan overnight lane closures for the Madison-Milton bridge tonight and Thursday as crews continue to work on the structure.

The bridge will be reduced to one lane from 9 p.m. today to 6 a.m. Thursday as crews make small adjustments to some bearings and secure them in their final locations.

Another lane closure is expected beginning at 9 p.m. Thursday until 6 a.m. Friday while crews replace a sliding plate in one of the truss bearings.

Traffic on the bridge will be reduced to one lane, but the bridge will remain open during the overnight work.

The bridge is still considered a work zone while crews continue the completion of pier caps, removal of temporary piers, install of measure to protect refurbished piers, painting and installation of the sidewalk.

A speed limit of 20 miles per hour will be in place until work is completed later this summer.

Drivers will also have some occasional lane shifts while crews continue to work throughout the day. Officials urge motorists to proceed with caution while the bridge remains an active work zone.
