The project to replace the damaged roof of the Trimble County High School gymnasium has seen "not one bump in the road," Superintendent Marcia Dunaway reported at Wednesday's Trimble County school board meeting.
The construction, which is expected to cost about $589,000, will be complete before the first day of classes on Aug. 8.
Crews began tearing off the roof last month after finding decking issues during repairs last year. The issues were thought to be caused by hail or storm damage.
The project calls for crews to take the roof down to the metal frame and replace all of the roof's layers during the project.
Also at the meeting, the board accepted a grant from AmeriCorps to help cover hiring two reading coaches.
Under the terms of the grant, the school will contribute no more than $11,000 for the salaries, while AmeriCorps will pay benefits and provide an education stipend to the workers.
The reading coaches will be full time and located at Milton and Bedford schools. The school has not yet announced the two coaches, as the grant was just accepted on Wednesday.
Bedford already has one full-time certified reading coach funded through the Read To Achieve program.
