Trimble Schools last day set for June 3

Trimble County school board members have set the graduation date for high school seniors and the last day of school for students after an unusual winter filled with snow days.
The high school graduation will be 10 a.m. on June 7 at the Trimble County High School gymnasium, 1029 U.S. 421-N.
The last day of school for students will be June 3 - barring any additional inclement weather.
School board members approved the dates during a board meeting Wednesday night.
Also during the meeting, school board members approved the use of hydrated lime to stabilize an area in the athletic complex behind the high school where the track will be located. The school board allowed up to $60,000 to be used for the stabilization project.
Superintendent Marcia Dunaway said Friday that the lime stabilization will allow work to continue after an unusually wet winter. The additional work also will make sure the track surface won't crack and crumble because of drainage issues.
"It's a moist ground," Dunaway said. "Part of it is due to weather and part is due to the (soil)."
Macy Foree with 4E Excavating told school board members during a February meeting that the soil under the old football field was never correctly compacted, which has led to drainage issues.
