Trimble transfers part of road to state
State will maintain part of Mill Creek

Trimble County officials transferred ownership of a county road to the state Friday.
The Trimble County Fiscal Court gave up the ownership and maintenance of Mill Creek Road to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet during a special meeting. The 0.23-mile stretch of road in Trimble County will now join the miles of roadway maintained by the state department.
The Trimble County road department fixed the worst spots in the road Thursday before county officials signed the documents relinquishing ownership on Friday, Trimble County Judge-Executive Jerry Powell said. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to blacktop the stretch later this year.
Powell said after the meeting the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet crews from Carroll County had been keeping the stretch of roadway clear for quite a while. The small piece of the road located in Trimble County isn't accessible without traveling into an adjacent county, he said, which made winter maintenance inconvenient for the county.
The state also owns and maintains Mill Creek Road in Carroll County, Powell said, while the roadway remains a county road when entering Henry County.
Magistrate Steven Stark noted the county and state department had been in discussions concerning the roadway for months, and Carroll County Judge-Executive Harold "Shorty" Tomlinson had helped to urge the state to take control of the roadway as well.
"Shorty played a big roll in this," Stark said.
The stretch of Mill Creek Road in Trimble County will be maintained by the state department crews based out of Carroll County.
