Jerry Wayne Brawner, 68, of Hanover, died Tuesday, April 22, 2014, in Hanover.
He was born Dec. 4, 1945, in Madison, to Walton and Vanieta Rogers Brawner. He was raised and resided all of his life in Jefferson County. He was a 1963 graduate of Southwestern High School. He served in the Army until Feb. 29, 1972, rising to the rank of Specialist Five serving in the 417th Quartermaster Company. He retired after 44 years of service with Hanover College working as manager of printing and mailing. He was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed woodworking, being with his family, and caring for his home, lawn and surroundings.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca "Becky" L. Mays Brawner, whom he married July 17, 1964; one daughter, Tracy Brawner Denning of Madison; two brothers, Tom Brawner of Madison and Rick Brawner of Hanover; one granddaughter; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A private graveside service and burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Hanover Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Diabetes Association. Contributions can be made through Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, which is in charge of arrangements.
