Jean Chase

Jean Chase, 81, of Madison, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2013, at The Waters of Clifty Falls.

She was born Feb. 20, 1932, in Carteret County, N.C., to Milton and Bertha Arnett Hughes. She was raised and graduated from high school in North Carolina. She worked as a clerk typist for Prudential Insurance Company in Chicago, Ill. She enjoyed caring for her dogs. She resided in Madison the past 20 years.

She is survived by her husband, Robert W. Chase, whom she married in 1955; one son, Gary L. Chase of Phoenix, Ariz.; one brother, Glen Hughes of Kinston, N.C.; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Seth Hughes; and three sisters, Janice, Mary Lee and Carolyn.

No services are planned. Interment will be in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Everett Owen

Everett Gerald "Gerry" Owen, 83, of Hanover, formerly of Milton, Ky. and Indianapolis, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2013 at his residence.

He was born Feb. 18, 1930, in Greene County, to Everett Devorse and Alpina Burris Owen. He was raised in Greene County and was a 1948 graduate of Midland High School. He served in the Army, rising to the rank of Corporal during the Korean War. He was employed with General Motors at the Allison Plant working as the tool crib manager. He retired after 30 years and seven hours of service. He also owned and operated E. Owen Insulations for more than 30 years. He retired to Milton, Ky. and enjoyed getting involved in the community. He served as a Milton City Commissioner for 12 years. He was a member of the Milton Lions Club and the Madison Moose Lodge 765. He was also a member of the Milton Masonic Lodge 947 F. & A.M., serving as a past master. He was first a member of the Bridgeport Masonic Lodge 162 F. & A.M. and was raised on Oct. 23, 1957. He was a member of Milton Baptist Church and attended the Mt. Byrd Christian Church in Milton, Ky. He enjoyed wintering in Eustis, Fla., fishing, camping, boating, traveling and being with his family. He had resided the past year in Hanover.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Ryker Owen, whom he married Aug. 10, 2012; one son, Everett Douglas Owen of Indianapolis; one daughter, Debra Elaine Ledbetter of Cunot; two step sons, Jason Box of Lexington and Jonathan Cain of Sellersburg; one step daughter, Carol Box-Joslin of Hardinsburg; one sister, Norma Owen Eavey of Jasonville; five grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Joan Goss Owen, whom he married June 30, 1956, and who died in July 2006; his parents; six sisters, Myla Owen Hash, Elsie Fay Owen, Agnes Owen Earle, Ida May Sipes, Iona Dell Owen and Hazel Owen Morris; five brothers, Albert Owen, Floyd Owen, Roy Owen, Ora Ray Owen and Carl Owen; and one step great-granddaughter.

A graveside service and burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis. Military honors will be conducted graveside.

Friends may call Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. A Masonic service will be conducted by Milton Lodge 947 F. & A. M. at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
