Brandon Burke-Pike

Brandon Michael Burke-Pike, 28, of Vevay, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, at his residence.

He was born May 1, 1986, in Madison, to Michael Eugene Brown and Lainie Parson. He was raised in Vevay and Madison. He attended Switzerland County High School. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, socializing and riding around town on his scooter.

He is survived by his biological mother and his step father, Lainie and Paul Parson of Vevay; his biological father, Michael Eugene Brown of Pennsylvania; his adopted father, Steve Pike and his wife Vanetta of Madison; his adopted mother, Natalie Huscheck and her husband Michael of Mansfield, Texas; three brothers, Brian Burke-Pike, Bradley Burke-Pike and James Burke-Pike, all of Madison; three sisters, Maggie Pike of Madison, and Mollie Pike and Olivia Pike, both of Mansfield, Texas; one step brother, Zane Bennett of Madison; his grandparents, Ella Mae and Jesse Dale Edwards of Vevay, Jim Bo Brown of Vevay, Carolyn and Tom Bates of Seymour, Betty and Jeff Lyons of LaGrange, Ky., John and Sharon Pike of Delaware, Ohio, and Dave and Terry Nixon of Mansfield, Texas; and one niece.

A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay.

Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 5 p.m. until the service.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Shriners Hospital. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.

John Ewing Sr.

John Leroy Ewing Sr., 89, of Kissimmee, Fla., formerly of Milton, Ky., died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, in Orlando, Fla.

He was born Dec. 9, 1923, in Henry County, Ky., to Roy and Goldie Bird Ewing. Prior to moving to Florida, he was a full-time minister in New Jersey for 42 years.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Marie Hoffman Ewing, whom he married in 1947; two children, Nancy Lee Ewing of Cape Coral, Fla. and John L. Ewing Jr. of Lake Junaluska, N.C.; two sisters, Nelda Cannon of Louisville, Ky. and Evelyn Glass of Bluffton, S.C.; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Rhema Mitchell and Betty Tandy; and one brother, Merlyn Ewing.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Carmel Cemetery near Milton, Ky.

Wood-Oakley Funeral Home in Milton, Ky. is in charge of local arrangements.

Frank Puckett, 65, of Carrollton, Ky., died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Ky.

Josephine Scotti

Josephine "Jo" Greene Scotti, 78, of Vevay, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, at her daughter's residence in Moorefield.

She was born Jan. 17, 1936, in Muncie, to Alonzo and Martha M. Covington Greene. She was raised and attended school in Switzerland County. She was a former cook at the Vevay Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5396 for several years. She worked at the Vevay American Legion Post No. 185 with Melvlena Hambrick. She was formerly employed with the U.S. Shoe Factory in Vevay for 26 years. She was a member of the Vevay Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5396 Ladies Auxiliary and the Vevay American Legion Post No. 185 Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Jo "Sandy" Caplinger of Moorefield and Deborah White of Bright; one step daughter, Tonya Lee Smith of Bennington; one sister, Betty Waldron of Madison; two brothers, Richard W. Greene and Anthony Wayne Greene, both of Madison; four grandsons; four step grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony R. "Tony" Scotti, whom she married Aug. 30, 1973, and who died June 25, 1997; her parents; six sisters, Jean Greene, Emma Lee Greene, Patsy Lou Adams, Lillian Mae White, Pauline Caswell Yengich and one infant; two brothers, Robert T. Greene and one infant.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial will be in Vevay Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. A special service will be conducted by the Vevay American Legion Post No. 185 and the Vevay Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5396 Ladies Auxiliary at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
