Orlan Fred Green, 93, of Madison, died Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at Hanover Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Oct. 14, 1919, in Jefferson County, near Lancaster, to Fred and Nora Stewart Green. He was raised and attended school near Deputy. He was a member of the Pisgah United Methodist Church near Deputy and attended the Bible Baptist Temple near Lancaster.
He served in the Army from Sept. 17, 1941 to Oct. 4, 1945, rising to the rank of corporal serving in Company B, 192nd Infantry Training Battalion during World War II. He received the Good Conduct Medal and other service awards. He enjoyed farming all of his life and had worked for 19 years at Williamson Heater in Madison as a sand blast operator. He enjoyed gardening, flowers and sitting on his porch waving at people.
He is survived by one son, John O. Green of Madison; one daughter, Mary Patricia Neely of Dupont; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Laurette Consuela Wilson Green, whom he married Sept. 14, 1945, and who died June 1, 2009; his parents; three brothers, Cias Green, Glenn Green and Cecil Green; four sisters, Elaine Gray, Opal Cole, Susie Richardson and Geneva Demumbren; and one granddaughter.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial will be in Kent Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 5 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. until the service.
Margaret A. Manaugh Monroe, 71, of Madison, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at King's Daughters' Hospital.
Funeral arrangements and additional information are pending at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre.
Cecil Rowlett Sr.
Cecil Douglas Rowlett Sr., 67, of Orleans, died Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 24, 1945, in Bedford, Ky., to Albert and Ethel Rowlett. He was formerly employed with Shelby Trucking.
He is survived by four children, Melissa Campbell, Anita Shepherd and Douglas Rowlett, all of Mitchell, and Cecil Douglas Rowlett Jr. of French Lick; three siblings, Mary Heitz and Norma Baker, both of Columbus, and Lena Mae Boldery; one nephew; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Faye Hopper Rowlett, whom he married Oct. 7, 1963, and who died Sept. 23, 1991; his parents; and five siblings, Leonard Rowlett, William "Pete" Rowlett, Carol Ray Rowlett and Virgil Rowlett and James Rowlett.
Friends may call at the Chastain Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Mitchell today from 6 to 8 p.m.
