Howard Louis Bailey, 74, of Madison, died Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at Kentuckiana Medical Center in Clarksville.

James Demaree

James A. Demaree, 80, of Madison, died Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at his residence.

He was born July 27, 1933, in Madison, to James E. and Mildred L. Augustine Demaree. He retired from the Jefferson Proving Ground as a proof director after 20 years of service. He also owned and operated Demaree's Mens Shop in downtown Madison from the mid 1950s until 1976 when the business was damaged during a fire. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge 2 and the Madison Elks Lodge 524. He was also active in the Downtown Merchants Association, Madison City Planning Commission and served on the board of the Jefferson Proving Ground Credit Union. He also served as a volunteer fireman for Clifty 6 in Madison. He enjoyed oil painting, fishing, hunting and traveling. He also enjoyed photography and taking pictures of wildlife and nature.

He is survived by one daughter, Deborah Whorley of Greenwood; two sons, Greg Demaree of Foley, Ala., and Andy Demaree of Madison; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ann Sauley Demaree, whom he married Dec. 27, 1953, and who died April 8, 2012; his parents; and one sister, Janet Middleton.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Vail Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted graveside.

Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from noon until the service.

Raymond Hart Sr.

Raymond Fay Hart Sr., 78, formerly of Dupont, died Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, Ky.

He was born June 11, 1935, in Switzerland County, to James Robert and Nellie V. Roland Hart. He was raised by his grandparents, Carroll Isaac and Maude Ellen Hart on Parks' Ridge. He attended and was baptized at Long Run Baptist Church. He attended Vevay High School. He started his career as an over-the-road truck driver at the age of 16. He traveled to every state in the continental United States, logging more than four million miles. He worked for the Pearl Packing Co. in Madison for several years, traveling regularly to New York City. He also worked at Coo-Par in Madison and Indiana Kentucky Trucking in Carrollton, Ky. He retired from Schneider Tank Lines of Green Bay, Wis., in 1995. He was an advocate for those with developmental disabilities. He enjoyed traveling and exploring the country. He also enjoyed caring for his home in Dupont, taking his wife on car-tour vacations, telling trucking stories, spending time with his family and attending musical performances.

He is survived by six children, Carrie Ellen Hart of Madison, Jayme Lee Hart Esq. of Louisville, Ky., Raymond F. Hart Jr. of Chicago, Ill., Joy Melinda "Mindi" Brent of Campbellsburg, Ky., Bonnie Kaye Hart of Madison and Gina Hart Jenkins of Madison; one brother, Bill Hart of Polatka, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Joyce Elaine Lucas Hart, who died Aug. 7, 2009; one daughter, Tammy Rae Cook, who died March 7, 2013; his father; his mother, Nellie V. Roland Hart Johnson; his grandparents who raised him, Carroll Isaac and Maude Ellen Hart; one sister, Falba Fettig; and one brother, James Vernon Hart.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call at the funeral home today from 5 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from noon until the service. The Madisonians will hold a musical tribute today from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
