Wilma Childers, 70, of Carrollton, Ky., died Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton, Ky.

Bettie L. Weaver Copeland, 89, of Hanover, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at Hanover Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mary E. Groves, 88, of Madison, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at Jewel House.

Leslie D. Smith, 97, of Anderson, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, at his residence.
He was born June 18, 1916, in Madison, to John S. and Martha "Daisy" Stewart Smith. He was a 1934 graduate of North Madison High School. He had lived in Anderson since 1941. He was an Army veteran, serving during World War II as a corporal in Company M, 242nd Infantry Regiment from 1943 to 1946. He received the Good Conduct Medal. He retired from Delco Remy Model Shop after 34 years of service. He was an avid gardener and homebuilder, personally building three homes while still employed full-time. He enjoyed traveling, spending 25 winters in Florida. He was a 67-year member of Bethany Christian Church, serving as deacon and trustee. He and his wife received the Christian Service Award in 1988 from the church.
He is survived by two daughters, Sharon Reed of Carmel and Dianne Duffee of Owatonna, Minn.; one sister, Colleen Dennis of Arlington, Texas; four granddaughters; two step granddaughters; seven great-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; two step great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; and two cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine Harsin Smith, whom he married Dec. 25, 1940; one son, Gary L. Smith; his parents; two brothers, Arthur Smith and Marshall Smith; and one sister, Dorothy Smith O'Bryant.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Bethany Christian Church in Anderson. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call at the church Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the service.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Larry Kineman, Missionary, Bethany Christian Church, 1920 N. Rangeline Rd.; Anderson, IN 46012-9666.
