Shawn Lee "Shawn Don" Melton, 23, of Madison, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at King's Daughters' Hospital.
He was born April 22, 1989, in Madison, the son of Jeffrey Allen and Kathy Smith Melton. He resided most of his life in Jefferson County. He was a 2008 graduate of Austin High School. He had worked as a welder at Arvin Sango. He had also worked with Poor Jack Amusements and McDonalds. He was of the Christian faith. He enjoyed collecting hats, jewelry and clothes.
He is survived by his fiancee, Amanda Paulette Cutshall; one son, Xsavier Michael Lee Melton of Madison; one step son, Trevor Duncan of Madison; his father and step mother, Jeffrey Allen and Tammie Melton of Hanover; his mother, Kathy Smith Melton of Terrell, Texas; three sisters, Melissa Danderidge of Dallas, Texas, Tashana Murphy of Seattle, Wash., and Jessie Melton of Madison; three brothers, Shane Allen Melton of Madison, Jordan Moots of White River Junction, Vt., and Cody Moots of Madison; his grandmother, Veva Smith of Terrell, Texas; seven nieces and nephews; one aunt; three uncles; and several cousins and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his step father, Sydney Duane Doss; his grandparents, Velva Marie Henry Melton Evans and G.C. Evans, Harold Melton Jr. and David Lee Smith; his great-grandparents, Thomas Marshall and Ida Margaret Baker Smith, and Harold and Mae Cooper Melton; and two uncles.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery near Cross Plains.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. until the service.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Shawn Melton Memorial Fund. Contribution cards are available at the funeral home.

Sonja Rivera, 51, of Carrollton, Ky., died Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at Carroll County Memorial Hospital.
Funeral arrangements and additional information are pending at Vail-Holt Funeral and Cremation Service.
Dolly Ann Sandefur, 75, of North Vernon, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
She was born Oct. 16, 1937, in San Jacinto, the daughter of John Ruark and Lula Willoughby. She graduated from Vernon High School in 1956. She worked as a supervisor for Muscatatuck State Development Services in Butlerville for 30 years. She was a member of Vernon Baptist Church. She enjoyed her grandchildren, reading the Bible, horse buggy rides, sewing and cooking.
She is survived be her husband, Kenneth L. Sandefur, whom she married April 1, 1956; three sons, Ivory J. Sandefur, Kenneth D. Sandefur and Russell S. Sandefur, all of North Vernon; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Bedford Ruark, Alford Ruark and an infant; and one sister, Mary Robbins.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Vernon Baptist Church. Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at her residence, 610 S. County Road 90-W, North Vernon and at the church Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the service.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Vernon Baptist Church.
