Raymond Deaton

Raymond Deaton, 88, of Hanover, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 25, 1925, in Jackson, Ky., the son of Dan and Dora Ingram Deaton. He lived in the Hanover area most of his life. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He earned the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He worked for Union Hall as a road engineer prior to retiring in 1975. He was a member of the American Legion and the Kent United Methodist Church.

He is survived by two brothers, Willie Deaton of Henryville and Reynolds Deaton of North Vernon; two sisters, Theda Sexson of Indianapolis and Bonnie Storen of Brownsburg; one niece; and one cousin.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia J. Deaton, whom he married Sept. 17, 1947, and who died Feb. 20, 2013; his parents; two sisters, Bertha Curtis and Mabel Oliver; and four brothers, Clyde Deaton, Fletch Deaton, Mack Deaton and Bradley Deaton.

The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial will be in Hanover Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted graveside by Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion.

Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. until the service.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Kent United Methodist Church. Contribution cards are available at the funeral home.
