Ruth Church

Ruth Ann Church, 67, of Bedford, Ky., died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, at Signature Health Care of Trimble County in Bedford, Ky.

She was born Aug. 9, 1949, in Mountain View, Ark., to Houston and Helen Workman Prince. She moved to Trimble County in 1988 She worked as a seamstress for Louisville Sada in Eminence, Ky. Prior to that, she worked for Virco Manufacturing Corporation in Conway, Ark. She also helped raise her grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing and knitting, playing bingo and cards, and cooking.

She is survived by one daughter, Sharon Church of Louisville, Ky.; two sons, Michael Beatty of Louisville, Ky. and Daniel Beatty of Edinburgh; one brother, Robert Prince of Milton, Ky.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, Lawrence Church, who died Sept. 14, 2014; one son, Stoney Bird, who died in 2015; her parents; and one sister, Janice McDole, who died in 2008.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Dean Griffin

Dean Griffin, 84, of Pleasant, died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, at Baptist Health East in Louisville, Ky.

He was born Jan. 4, 1933, in Brookville, to John and Frona St. John Griffin. He was raised in Switzerland County and was a 1951 graduate of Vevay High School. He was a surveyor for the Switzerland County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service Office in Vevay. He also worked for Delco Remy in Anderson. He was a bus driver for Christman Bus Service for nine and a half years. He was employed for Indiana-Kentucky Electric Corporation in Madison, retiring in 1992, after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Switzerland County School Corporation School Board from 1968 to 1972. He was a founding board member of the Switzerland County Sportsman Club from 1996 and a member of the Gideon’s International Switzerland County Camp. He was a member of Brushy Fork Baptist Church near Bear Branch. He enjoyed hunting, watching basketball and baseball, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn L. Miller Griffin, whom he married March 1, 1952; one daughter, Joyce A. Barnes of near Moorefield; three sons, Ronnie Griffin of Bennington, Dwayne Griffin of Rising Sun and Mike Griffin of Madison; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Abe Griffin, Tom Griffin and Jim Griffin; two sisters, Lavina “Viney” Eversman and Grace Browning; and one grandson.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial will be in Pleasant Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m.
