Betty Foley

Betty Pauline Lowe Foley, 84, of Hanover, formerly of Madison, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at Thornton Terrace Health Campus.

She was born Jan. 18, 1929, in Bourbon County, Ky., the daughter of Roy and Pearl Moreland Lowe. She was raised in Bourbon County, Ky. and was a 1947 graduate of Bourbon County High School. She and her family moved to Jefferson County in 1962. She was employed with Inglis Drug Store, Conn Organ and the Hanover College Book Store. She was an active member of Hanover Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school. She enjoyed reading and antiquing. She was an avid University of Kentucky Wildcats fan.

She is survived by two sons, Ray Foley of Madison and William Michael "Mike" Foley of Hanover; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Ray Foley, whom he married Jan. 20, 1948, and who died July 8, 1992; her parents; four sisters, Kathryn Carr, Thelma Gregory, Margaret Adams and Carolyn Schneider; one brother, Roy Allen Lewis; and one granddaughter.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until the service.

Mary Sandlin

Mary Rose Strunk Sandlin, 81, of Madison, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at her residence.

Wayne Sooy

Wayne C. Sooy, 67, of Dupont, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at his residence.

He was born Nov. 7, 1945, in Jefferson County, the son of Jesse M. and Opal Buchanan Sooy. He was raised in Jefferson County and attended Madison Consolidated High School. He was employed with Steinhardt and Hanson for 32 years and then with Arco Office Supplies as a service technician. He attended many training and technical schools. He also served as an auctioneer for 20 years. He worked at the Madison Correctional Facility in security for five years and then with Securitas in Columbus and North Vernon for the past two years. Early in life he was a member of the Hanover Baptist Church. He was currently a member of First Baptist Church of Dupont, where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed woodworking, photography, his children and grandchildren. He had been a member of the Corvette Club.

He is survived by his wife Gail L. Weales Sooy, whom he married Aug. 18, 1967; one daughter, Erin Pettit of North Vernon; one son, Michael W. Sooy of Tiffin, Ohio; one brother, Donald Sooy of Madison; one sister, Viola Hunter of Centerville, Ohio; five grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ralph Sooy; and one sister, Evelyn Sooy Pruitt.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Dupont, 6824 W. South St., Dupont. Burial will be in Bayless Cemetery.

Friends may call at the church Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from noon until the service.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Wayne Sooy Memorial Fund.
