Cornelius Bergman

Cornelius P. "Kees" Bergman, 55, of Worthville, Ky., died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 19, 1957, in the Netherlands, the son of George and Phyllis McCarty Bergman. He worked in the Maintenance Department at the former Arvin-Meritor in Carrollton, Ky.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Simmons Bergman; one step son, Billy Lucas of Worthville, Ky.; one brother, John Bergman of Indiana; five step grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one step daughter, Rhonda J. Lucas Martin; and his parents.

No services are planned. Cremation was chosen.

Charles Edward Cook, 75, of Cross Plains, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at Hanover Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Joann Imel

Joann Wingham Imel, 77, of Bedford, Ky., died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at King's Daughters' Hospital.

She was born July 15, 1935, in Milton, Ky., the daughter of Delmar and Hazel Hood Wingham. She enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles and watching "Dancing with the Stars." She was a member of Bedford Fellowship Baptist Church.

She is survived by her caregiver, Guy Gene Cutshaw; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Imel, who died in 2001; her parents; one sister, Shelby Melton; and three brothers, Buddy Ray Wingham, Brad Wingham and Bobby Wingham.

A graveside service and burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Moffett Cemetery in Milton, Ky.

No visitation is scheduled.

Edith Jenkins

Edith Elizabeth Marie Hamilton Jenkins, 84, of Madison, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at Norton Hospital in Louisville, Ky.

She was born April 10, 1928, in Madison, the daughter of Crawford and Della H. Hamilton. During World War II, she worked at a filling station changing oil. She later worked at the former Conn Organ Company for five years. She was also a homemaker and caregiver. She enjoyed crafts, cooking and gardening. She helped in the construction of her house. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary.

She is survived by two daughters, Betty L. Wingham Moody and Sharon M. Jenkins, both of Madison; one son, William J. Jenkins of Madison; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph H. Jenkins, whom she married Nov. 15, 1943, and who died June 24, 1995; her parents; one brother, Crawford Hamilton; one aunt who helped raise her, Lula Handlon; and one great-grandson.

A graveside service and burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Springdale Cemetery.

Visitation will be private.

Charlene Johnson

Charlene McMakin Johnson, 83, of Lexington, Ky., formerly of Vevay, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Ky.

She was born April 23, 1929, in Vevay, the daughter of William and Elaine Snyder McMakin. She and her husband owned and operated Charlie's Fresh Seafood Inc. & Carry Out Restaurant in Lexington, Ky. for several years.

She is survived by one son, Kendrick F. Briggs of Vevay; one step daughter, Gwen Hays of Noblesville; one brother, Nelson McMakin of Lexington, Ky.; one grandchild; one great-grandchild; one nephew; one niece; and her caregivers, Amanda Martin, Abby Martin and Louise Martin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles William "Charlie" Johnson; and her parents.

The funeral will be at 6 p.m. today at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home in Lexington, Ky. A graveside service and burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Vevay Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Kerr Brothers Funeral Home in Lexington, Ky. today from 3 p.m. until the service.

Marjorie A. Root, 77, of Carrollton, Ky., died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at Green Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carrollton, Ky.

She was born March 21, 1935, in Grays, Ky., the daughter of Marvin and Nellie MaGee Craig. She was a housewife. She had been a member of the First Church Of Nazarene in Louisville, Ky.

She is survived by two sons, Jeffery G. Root of Carrollton, Ky. and Harold D. Root of Bowling Green, Ky.; one brother, Marvin Craig Jr. of Grays, Ky.; and one grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Root; her parents; and one brother, Harry Craig.

No services are planned. Cremation was chosen.
