Anna Freeman

Anna Louise Freeman, 76, of Hanover, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at her residence.

She was born May 29, 1936, in Louisville, Ky., the daughter of William K. and Rosie B. Hyden Freeman. She attended school and was raised in Trimble County, Ky. She was united in marriage in 1954 to Robert J. Crittenden. She was later united in marriage to William B. Dukes in August 1969. She had resided in Jefferson County since 1984 and had previously lived in Ocala, Fla. She enjoyed watching television, especially quiz programs. She also enjoyed yard sales, shopping, being with her family and caring for her grandchildren. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

She is survived by her companion, Basil "Bud" Newman of Madison; five daughters, Ginny Perry of Summerfield, Fla., Mary Ann Gardner of Virginia, Lorene Warner of Madison, Patricia Carson of Milton, Ky., and Billy Jo Smith of Vevay; three sons, Robert Crittenden and Eugene Crittenden, both of Madison, and William B. Dukes Jr. of Milton, Ky.; one stepdaughter, Lucille Redish of California; one sister, Mary Summers of Madison; two brothers, Charles Freeman and Tony Freeman, both of Madison; 28 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William B. Dukes; two stepsons, Victor Dukes and Johnny Dukes; her parents; two sisters, Bernice Harmon and Darlene Reed; 10 brothers, William Freeman, Ronie Freeman, Johnny Freeman, Lonie Freeman, David Freeman, Joe Freeman, Stanley Freeman, James Freeman, Larry Freeman and Richard Freeman; and four grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. until the service.

Fred Larkin Holt Jr., 96, of Madison, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at King's Daughters' Hospital.

Richard King

Richard Scott King, 87, of Madison, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at King's Daughters' Hospital.

He was born Feb. 14, 1925, in San Francisco, Calif., the son of Sydney Scott and Hazel Froom King. He was raised and graduated high school in Daly City, Calif. He served in the Navy from June 25, 1943 to March 10, 1946, rising to the rank of Quartermaster Second Class Petty Officer during World War II. After the war, he attended the University of San Francisco on the G.I. Bill, earning a bachelor's degree in economics. After a career in the insurance industry he retired in 1993 as the executive vice president of a California-based insurance company. He also taught classes at the Insurance Education Association and Golden Gate College and participated in seminars from Fairbanks, Alaska, to Tel Aviv, Israel. He acted as an insurance consultant on many occasions as well as being an arbitrator in disputes between insurance and re-insurance companies and supplied testimony as an expert witness in several state and federal courts. He was a life member of the Society of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters and of the Callaway Family Associates. He moved to Madison in 1995 and was a former docent at the Costigan House for Historic Madison Inc. and a past member of SCORE.

He is survived by his wife, Dianne Castoro King, whom he married May 16, 1992; one daughter, Denise Case of Spokane, Wash.; one son, David King of San Diego, Calif.; one stepson, Scott Peters of Louisville, Ky.; one stepdaughter, Debra Hughes of Arlington, Texas; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

No public services are scheduled.

Connie Waller

Connie Sue Waller, 53, of Madison, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at Hosparus Norton Hospice Inpatient Facility in Louisville, Ky.

She was born June 6, 1959, in Scottsburg, the daughter of Herbert and Mildred Bundy Tucker. She was adopted as an infant by William C. and Velma Jo Patterson Waller. She was a graduate of Madison Consolidated High School and attended Ivy Tech. She was employed as a carnival worker for 10 years traveling all over the United States. She later worked as a machine operator for Grote Industries for eight years and last worked at a group home with Indiana Mentor. She was a member of 4-H and the Prince of Peace Catholic Church. She enjoyed horses, landscaping, flowers, travel and being with her girls.

She is survived by two daughters, Kelly Jo Waller of Jeffersonville and Taylor Nicole Waller of Madison; two brothers, Ray Stucker of Scottsburg and Shannon Edwards of West Lafayette; one sister, Priscilla Lewellen of Madison; her aunt and uncle; seven nieces and nephews; three great-nieces; and four cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, who died Dec. 24, 2007; her mother, who died Aug. 16, 2010; and her birth parents, Herbert and Mildred Bundy Tucker.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Chapel, 310 W. State St. Burial will be in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery near China.

Friends may call at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. An evening prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
