Mary Hardin

Mary E. Simpson Hardin, 92, of Bedford, Ky., died Saturday, July 12, 2014, at Signature Healthcare in Bedford, Ky.

She was born June 12, 1922, in Maude, Ky., to Ernest and Mary Breeding Simpson. She worked for many years as a state secretary. She enjoyed working in her garden and spending time with her family.

She is survived by one daughter in-law, Bonnie Hardin of Bedford, Ky.

She was preceded in death by three children, Bobby Norris, Bonnie Jean Hardin and James R. Hardin; her parents; two brothers, James Simpson and Richard Simpson; and one sister, Norma Nalley.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Ransdell Funeral Home in Bedford, Ky. Burial will be in Bedford Cemetery.

Christina Raines

Christina L. Raines, 52, of Sanders, Ky., died Friday, July 11, 2014, at the Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton, Ky.

She was born Feb. 12, 1962, in Campbell County, Ky., to James S. Jr. and Anna M. Shaw Raines. She worked at the HOPE Workshop in Carrollton, Ky. for 36 years. She was of the Christian faith.

She is survived by her mother, Anna M. Shaw Raines of Sanders, Ky.; one sister, Theresa S. Raines of Owenton, Ky.; and two brothers, Kevin Thomas Raines and Gary Randall Raines, both of Sanders, Ky.

She was preceded in death by her father, who died in 1988; two sisters, Shirley L. Raines, who died in 1958 and Deborah A. Raines, who died in 1977; two brothers, James Michael Raines, who died in 1999 and Stephen Gregory Raines, who died in 2003.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home in Carrollton, Ky. Burial will be in Dallasburg Masonic Cemetery in Wheatley, Ky.

Delmar Smith

Delmar L. Smith, 87, of Versailles, died Sunday, July 13, 2014, at Versailles Fire and Rescue.

He was born March 26, 1927, in Broadhead, Ky., to Russell and Fannie Brummett Smith. He spent his early life in Kentucky and later lived in Cincinnati, Ohio. He and four of his brothers owned and operated a chicken farm near Butlerville for several years. He then built the Smith Feed Mill, south of Versailles and operated it until 1973. He enjoyed playing the guitar in his early years, hunting, fishing, riding snow mobiles, boating and traveling across the country. He was of the Christian faith. He was a member of the Masons and the Versailles Lions Club.

He is survived by one daughter, Debra Walker of Versailles; one step son, Terry Stout of Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ruth "Patty" Brandon Smith, whom he married Oct. 15, 1960, and who died June 7, 2013; one step son, Michael Stout; his parents; two sisters, Vivian and Marie; six brothers, Millard Smith, Virgil Smith, Alfred Smith, Alvin Smith, Johnny Smith and Albert Smith; and one nephew.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the service.

Patti Spurr

Patti Jo Stakelin Spurr, 51, of Bedford, Ky., died Sunday, July 6, 2014.

She was born June 20, 1963, in Cynthiana, Ky., to Charles and Patsy Stakelin. She worked at Kroger in Carrollton, Ky., and the Country Store in Bedford, Ky. She had also worked for Grote. She enjoyed being outdoors, working with flowers and in the yard, boating and helping her friends and family. She was a Green Bay Packers fan.

She is survived by her husband, Archie Brian Spurr of Bedford, Ky.; one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Yantz of Smithfield, Ky.; one step son, Ben Spurr of Milton, Ky.; one step daughter, Sara Frey of Philadelphia; two brothers, Robert Stakelin of Carrollton, Ky. and Charles Stakelin of Milton, Ky.; two sisters, Jackie Moorman of Carrollton, Ky., and Cindy Ehlers of Madison; three step-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her father; her mother, Patsy Conover; and her step father, Billy Bob Conover.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Fellowship Baptist Church in Bedford, Ky.

Richard Watterson Sr.

Richard K. Watterson Sr., 71, of North Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Hanover, died Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Hope Hospice in North Fort Myers, Fla.

He was born Nov. 8, 1942, in Madison, to Alvis and Aldean Weatherbee Watterson. He was raised in Jefferson County and attended school in Hanover. He was a retired farmer and heavy equipment operator. He had worked for Farm Bureau Co-op and Martin Marietta Gravel Company. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in downtown Madison and Bayshore Community Chapel in Florida. He enjoyed farming, socializing and being a character. He was awaiting the birth of three great-great-grandchildren.

He is survived by three sons, Donnie Watterson of Hanover, Mike Watterson of Cleveland, Ohio and Rick Watterson of Madison; one daughter, Debbie Watterson Duncan of Madison; two step sons, David E. Aldridge and Roger D. Aldridge, both of Madison; one step daughter, Teresa L. Jones of Madison; two brothers, Jack Watterson and Don Watterson, both of Hanover; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bertha Lois Aldridge Watterson, whom he married July 6, 1959, and who died Nov. 29, 1993; his second wife, Helen Means Watterson, whom he married July 17, 1997, and who died Sept. 20, 2008; his parents; and three brothers, Robert Watterson, Kenneth Watterson and Bill Watterson

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens.
