Virginia Gentry Banks, 97, of Columbus, formerly of Carrollton, Ky., died Monday, July 29, 2013, at the Four Seasons Health Care Center in Columbus.
Funeral arrangements and additional information are pending at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home in Carrollton, Ky.
Thomas Barry Jr.
Thomas Joseph "Tom" Barry Jr., 64, of Vevay, died Saturday, July 27, 2013, at the Robley Rex Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Louisville, Ky.
He was born Oct. 1, 1948, in Dallas, Texas, to Thomas Joseph Sr. and Irene Mildred Foley Barry. He was raised in Hartford, Conn., where he received his GED. He later attended various colleges for two years. He served in the Marine Corps from Dec. 28, 1967, to Jan. 23, 1970, rising to the rank of Lance Corporal, serving during the Vietnam War. He received several service and campaign medals. He was a former construction worker and grounds keeper. He owned and operated Rainbows End Antiquarian Book Store in New Jersey. He helped his wife in her antique business, Diana The Huntress Antiques in South Carolina. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed organic gardening, reading and nature.
He is survived by his wife, Diana Jewell Schmitt Barry, whom he married June 13, 1992; two sisters, Cecelia Tedone of South Windsor, Conn., and Maryellen Guidotti of East Hartford, Conn.; five nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one nephew.
The funeral will be at noon Saturday at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay.
Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the service. Military honors will be conducted at the funeral home by Vevay Post 185 of the American Legion and the Vevay Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5396.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, Marine Corps Base P.O. Box 227, Quantico, VA 22134-0227 or to the St. Francis Soup Kitchen, St. Francis Seraph Ministry, 1615 Vine St., Cincinnati, OH 45202. Contribution cards are available at the funeral home.
