Shirley Auxier

Shirley Dee Jackson Auxier, 78, of Murrieta, Calif., died Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at her residence.

She was born Nov. 19, 1934, in Saluda, to Andrew and Freda Jackson. She was raised on a farm and learned to milk cows at a very young age. In 1960 she and her husband moved the family to California and settled in Santa Ana. While raising her family, she worked at Sears Service Center for 25 years. They moved to Irvine, Calif., for a few years and then in 1985 the couple retired to Landers, Calif. She and her husband traveled the country in their travel trailer and went on several cruises. They both enjoyed working in their yard, walking, reading and riding their golf cart all over the desert and around Goat Mountain. She later moved to Murrieta, Calif., to be closer to her family. She was a member of The Orchard Christian Fellowship of Temecula, Calif.

She is survived by two daughters, Patti Berger of Temecula, Calif., and Tina Hernandez of Huntington Beach, Calif.; two sons, Mark Auxier of Madison and Tracey Auxier; two brothers, Ronald Jackson of Greenwood and Burlyn Jackson of Madison; 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and several nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joel D. Auxier, whom she married March 18, 1950, and who died May 21, 2007.; one daughter, Paula Sue Auxier, who died in 2005; her father, who died in 1981; her mother, who died in 1975; five brothers, George Jackson Sr., who died in 1992, Lloyd Jackson, who died 1944, Boyce Jackson, who died in 1990, Millis Jackson, who died in 1998, and Terry Jackson, who died in 2012; and two sisters, Hildreth Cleffman, who died in 2003, and Rose Ann Bibb, who died in 2009.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Orchard Christian Fellowship of Temecula. A reception will follow the service at the church.

Joyce Goodpasture

Joyce Elita DeForest Goodpasture, 90, of Canaan, died Monday, June 10, 2013, at Swiss Villa Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Vevay.

She was born Sept. 6, 1922, in Buntingville, Calif., to Elmer and Gladys Hoffman DeForest. She was raised in Susanville, Calif., and was a graduate of Lasen County High School. She attended the University of California. She resided near Daleville from 1948 to 1973. She did clerical work for several years. In 1974, she moved to Jefferson County. She later worked as an X-ray transcriptionist for King's Daughters' Hospital. She was of the Unitarian faith. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, cooking and being with her family.

She is survived by her husband, William C. Goodpasture, whom she married May 12, 1945; two daughters, Martha Meadows of Worthville, Ky., and Karen Swift of Trustville, Ala.; one sister, Ardith Christensen of Napa, Calif.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Don DeForest; and one sister, Alice June Welch.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Canaan Mennonite Chapel, 9430 N. Barbersville Road, near Canaan. Burial will be in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Robert Sampson

Robert Thomas "Bobby T." Sampson, 61, of Hanover, died Friday, June 7, 2013, at King's Daughters' Hospital.

He was born Jan. 31, 1952, in Madison, to Robert T. Sampson Sr. and Ramona Blanche Reed Todd. He resided most all of his life in Madison and was a 1970 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School. He served in the Marine Corps. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator most of his working career and had worked with Kinder and Morgan and with IMI - Irving Materials Inc. He enjoyed playing music, riding motorcycles, vacationing, camping, fishing, hunting and being with his family. He was a member of the Good Samaritan Ministries and Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Gayer Sampson; one daughter, Charity Sampson-Ford of Madison; three sons, Josh Baker of Highland and Seth Sampson and Michael Prickett, both of Madison; two brothers, Richard Sampson of Hanover and Steve Todd of Columbus; four sisters, Rhonda Singer of Madison, Sheila McMillan of Nabb, Paula Black of Hanover and Teresa Williams of Fort Myers Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Jacob T. Sampson, who died in December 1985; his father, who died Oct. 22, 2008; and his mother, who died Nov. 13, 2011.

A celebration of life service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Good Samaritan Ministries, 209 E. Main St. Military honors will be conducted.

Friends may call at the church Saturday from 1 p.m. until the service.

Michael Sawalich

Michael "Mick" William Sawalich, 85, of West Frankfort, Ill., died Sunday, June 9, 2013, at Helia Health Care Center in Benton, Ill.

He was born Jan. 7, 1928, in West Frankfort, Ill., to Eric and Victoria Consavage Sawalich. He served in the Navy for two years during World War II. His worked managing Ranmars Tire in Herrin, Ill., and selling mining supplies for William Hales Company in West Frankfort, Ill.

He is survived by his wife, Janis Ragland Sawalich, whom he married Aug. 21, 1948; two sons, Steve Sawalich of West Frankfort, Ill. and Michael Sawalich of Shelbyville, Ky., and Vevay; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one cousin; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Victoria; and his parents.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort, Ill. Burial will be in Tower Heights Cemetery in West Frankfort, Ill. Military honors will be conducted by the Orient and Zeigler American Legions, West Frankfort Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Marion Funeral Honors Team.

Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the service.
