Ruth Chadwell

Ruth Anne Lock Chadwell, 82, of Madison, died Thursday, June 12, 2014, at Hanover Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Dec. 1, 1928, in Brooksburg, to Albert I. and Shirley Leatherbury Lock. She was a 1947 graduate of Hanover High School. She worked briefly as an Avon representative but mostly was a homemaker. She enjoyed oil painting, gardening and sewing. She was a member of the Madison congregation of Jehovah's Witness.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Harry G. Chadwell, whom she married Nov. 13, 1948; one daughter, Sandra Kay Anderson of Jeffersonville; one son, Christopher Michael Chadwell of Charlestown; two sisters, Marguerite Ligon and Carolyn Montgomery, both of Hanover; one brother, Paul V. Lock of Chelsea; one great-grandson; two great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Michael R. Chadwell, who died Nov. 8, 2003; one brother, Eugene Lock, who died in 1945; and one sister, Harriet Knox, who died in 2012.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison.

Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Monday from noon until the service.

Jess Holder


Jess Holder, 87 of Dupont, died Thursday, June 12, 2014, in Louisville, Ky.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Allene Patrick Holder; 10 children, Debra Bell, Sandra Clark, Sherry Ricketts, Joanie Roark, Zelmer Holder, Carlos Holder, Denzil Holder, Keith Holder, Harold Holder and Mark Holder; and one sister, Goldie Parnell.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Hickey & Son Funeral Home in Monticello, Ky. Burial will be in the Parnell Church of God Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 5 to 9 p.m. and Monday prior to the service.

Beulah Tapp


Beulah Ann Johnson Tapp, 75, of Dupont, died Thursday, June 12, 2014, at Hanover Health and Rehab Center.

She was born Jan. 23, 1939, in Bedford, Ky., to LeRoy and Mary Louise Robbins Johnson. She was raised in and attended school in Trimble and Carroll counties. She was a waitress and a homemaker. She had worked as a cook for the Dark Horse Restaurant, Command Post and had also worked for McDonalds. She resided in Indianapolis for 18 years and worked in the laundry department at a nursing home. She returned to Jefferson County in 2004. She enjoyed collecting owls, and salt and pepper shakers.

She is survived by her husband, Harold Vernon Tapp, whom she married Oct. 5, 1962; two sons, Walter Leroy Tapp of Dupont and Michael Vernon Tapp of Lucedale, Miss.; one daughter, Cathy Hill of Ardmore, Ala.; two brothers, James S. Johnson and Vernon Johnson, both of Hanover; three sisters, Barbara Fenley of Lebanon Junction, Ky., Bonnie Stephens of Madison and Debbie Kay Cooper of New Albany; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Ann Stout and Pamela Sue Howard; her parents; and her infant twin sister, Louise Johnson.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre.
