Mary Jane Langsford

Mary Jane Bishop Miller Langsford, 83, of Indianapolis, formerly of Madison, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at her daughter's residence.

She was born Sept. 22, 1929, in Canaan, the daughter of Edgar and Helen McGee Bishop. She was a 1948 graduate of Central High School on Ryker's Ridge. She moved to Indianapolis and begin a career there. She worked for the city of Indianapolis before moving to the Statehouse, where she became a traffic judge for the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. She later worked for the State Board of Education and for Sen. Richard Lugar, retiring in 1977.

She is survived by one daughter, Julie Ann Scholl of Indianapolis; two sons, John Miller and Jim Langsford, both of Florida; three sisters, Brenda Alexander and Midge Yager, both of Madison, and Bert Thurnall of Indianapolis; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her father, who died Aug. 10, 1970; her mother, who died Nov. 6, 1970; one brother, Keith Bishop, who died June 6, 1997; and two sisters, Patricia Bell Works, who died March 17, 1992, and Bonnie Bishop Morgan, who died Oct. 30, 2003.

A graveside service and burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Washington Park East Cemetery, 10772 E. Washington St., Indianapolis.
