Alice Lorene Kilgore Downing, 84, of Vevay, died Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at King's Daughters' Hospital.
She was born April 7, 1925, in Orlando, Fla., the daughter of Floyd Velda and Jessie Jewell Cashion Kilgore. She was raised and attended school in Lyndale, Ohio. She was married to Roy Francis Downing Sr. She was employed with the U.S. Shoe factory in Vevay for 22 years. She was a former employee of the Goat Mountain Flower Shop in Vevay, Direct Menswear and the Maas Brothers in Clearwater, Fla. She provided in-home nursing care in Clearwater, Tampa and Dunedin, Fla. She lived in Vevay from 1949 to 1976 and returned there in 2008. She was a member of Brushy Fork Baptist Church in Pleasant. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and fishing.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Furnish of Vevay and LaDona Scudder of Plant City, Fla.; two sons, Roy F. Downing Jr. of Clearwater, Fla., and Ronald Joe Downing of Moorefield; three sisters, Connie Spears of New Richmond, Ohio, Betty Lou Lawrence of Georgetown, Ohio, and Cora Mae Mentzel of Mount Carmel, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Jessie Lee Kilgore; one infant son; her parents; seven brothers, Floyd, Richard, Charles, Donald, Bill, Ray Lee and Phillip Kilgore; and four sisters, Joann O'Donell, Norma Lindsey, Tillie Kilgore and Joy Murry.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial will be in Vevay Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 5 to 8 p.m.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Heart Association or the Brushy Fork Baptist Church. Contribution cards are available at the funeral home.

Donald Ray Simmons, 73, of Carrollton, Ky., died Friday, Oct. 16, 2009 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Louisville, Ky.
He was born Oct. 7, 1936, the son of Chester and Virginia Breeden Simmons. He was a Navy veteran. He worked as a truck driver and landscaper.
He is survived by his wife, Hallie Bell Sanders Simmons; one son, Lloyd Simmons of Shelbyville, Ky.; one daughter, Bonnie Gale Litobroski of Glen, Ill.; three brothers, James Simmons of Ohio, Thomas Simmons of Ghent, Ky., and Bobby Simmons of Worthville, Ky.; two sisters, Betty Taylor of Carrollton, Ky., and Wanda Bergman of Worthville, Ky.; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Everett Simmons; and one sister, Bonnie Cook.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home in Carrollton, Ky. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Carrollton, Ky.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 4 to 8 p.m.

Clarence Stephenson, 86, of Madison, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009, at King's Daughters' Hospital.
