Larry Perkins, 57, of Madison, formerly of Van Lear, Ky., died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, at King's Daughters' Hospital.
He was born Jan. 25, 1955, in Johnson County, Ky., the son of Frank and Ruby Ramey Perkins.
He is survived by three brothers, Bobby Perkins of Van Lear, Ky., Jimmy Perkins of Wabash and Roger Perkins of Madison, Ga.; and four sisters, Sue Still of Wabash, Sheila Jefferson of Waverly, Ohio, Lisa VanHoose of Pikeville, Ky., and Dorothy Ratliff of Wakinsville, Ga.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Van Lear Enterprise Baptist Church. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park in Staffordsville, Ky.
Friends may call at the church all day today and on Saturday until the service.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions toward funeral expenses.
Phelps and Son Funeral Home of Paintsville, Ky., is in charge of arrangements.
Opal M. Miller Smith, 85, of Madison, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, at The Waters of Clifty Falls.
She was born Nov. 11, 1926, in Magoffin County, Ky., the daughter of McCoy and Thelma Keeton Miller. She farmed with her husband on Dow Ridge in Jefferson County. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and the Macedonia American Baptist Women. She lived in Jefferson County the past 54 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed cooking for her family, raising a garden and tending to her flowers and African violets.
She is survived by three sons, David Smith, Darrell Smith and Donald Smith, all of Madison; five brothers, Rudean Miller of Osgood, Chavis Miller, Johnie Miller and Grover Miller, all of Versailles, and Charles Miller of Osgood; four sisters, Reva Mullins and Helen Bauman, both of Osgood, Janet Thompson of North Vernon and Susan Owens of Osgood; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter T. Smith, whom she married Nov. 22, 1947, and who died Dec. 1, 1999; one son, Randy Thomas Smith, who died in 1958; her parents; and two brothers, Henry Clay Miller, who died Oct. 26, 1932, and Gray "Bub" Miller, who died July 25, 2009.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Macedonia Baptist Church near Moorefield. Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery near Moorefield.
Friends may call at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre on Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. and at the church Sunday from 1 p.m. until the service.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Macedonia Baptist Church or the Macedonia Cemetery Association. Contribution cards are available at the funeral home.
