Ryder Nichols Deitz, 3, of Sanders, Ky., died Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, in Carrollton, Ky.

Joseph Gayles

Joseph A. "Joey" Gayles, 54, of Madison, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at his residence.

He was born Aug. 24, 1958, in Louisville, Ky., the son of Joseph Zachery Gayles and Hazel Thompson English. He was baptized and confirmed in Holy Name Catholic Church in Louisville, Ky., where he served as an altar boy. He had many interests and loves, and his interest in photography inspired a move to Columbus, Ohio, to attend the Columbus College of Art and Design. He apprenticed under the photographer D.R. Goff and became a freelance photographer. He enjoyed technology and innovation. He used his skills in technology to work as a freelance computer tech in Columbus. His enjoyment of music and people came together in Madison, when in August 1999 he opened the House-O-Hits Record Store. The opening of JoeyG's Restaurant & Nightclub followed in June 2000. He sponsored art openings for local and regional artists as well as an acoustic open stage for local musicians to share their talent for music.

He is survived by his wife, Cheri Sexton Gayles, whom he married May 20, 2001; two brothers, Tony Gayles and Martin English; one sister, Michelle English; two nieces; one great-niece; and one uncle.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his aunt who raised him, Nora Ellen Thompson Whitaker.

The funeral will be private. A public celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Gary Humphrey, of Madison, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at the Robley Rex Veterans Affairs Hospital in Louisville, Ky.

Joseph Jones Sr.

Joseph J. "Joe" Jones, Sr., 47, of Patriot, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at his residence.

He was born Feb. 1, 1965, in Fort Seal, Okla., the son of Buster and Margaret Ann Baker Jones. He was a former loader and production operator for Hilltop Basic Resources for 13 years. He formerly worked at North Bend Farms in Patriot for seven years. He lived in Patriot for the past 25 years. He enjoyed working on old cars, lawn mowers and anything he could get his hands on. He also enjoyed fishing, helping anyone in need and making people laugh.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry Lynn Scudder Jones, whom he married April 24, 2004; two sons, Joseph J. Jones Jr. of Patriot and John Buster Jones of Biloxi, Miss.; three daughters, Jessica O'Conner of Rising Sun, Shelby Jones of Leesville, La., and Liza O'Conner of Patriot; his parents, of Rising Sun; four sisters, Delma O'Conner of Milton, Ky., Cindy Cates of Carrollton, Ky., Sandy Brown of Seattle, Wash., and Debbie Baker of Tennessee; four grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his mother; one brother, Daniel J. Jones, who died Dec. 10, 2000; and his grandparents, Buster and Delma Jones, and Joseph and Dorothy Baker.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery in Patriot.

Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 11 a.m. until the service.

Carl Taylor

Carl Denton Taylor, 77, of Hanover, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at his residence.

He was born June 13, 1935, in Somerset, Ky., the son of Rothel Roscoe and Mae Barnett Taylor. He resided most of his life in Jefferson County. He was a retired homebuilder and contractor in Jefferson County. He enjoyed fishing.

He is survived by two daughters, Yvonne Thornton of Social Circle, Ga. and Tammy Roderick of Covington, Ga.; one brother, Burrell Taylor of Paragon; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Arthur Taylor.

A private family service will be held.

Caroline Tuttle

Caroline Elizabeth Tuttle, 3, of Sanders, Ky., died Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, in Carrollton, Ky.

She was born Dec. 31, 2008, in Louisville, Ky., the daughter of Chris and Stacy Tuttle. She was a student at Carroll County Head Start. She attended Jordan Baptist Church in Carroll County, Ky.

She is survived by her parents, of Sanders, Ky.; two sisters, Clara Tuttle and Celia Tuttle, both of Sanders, Ky.; one brother, Cyrus Tuttle of Sanders, Ky.; her maternal grandparents, Jerry and Cecilia Oak of Bedford, Ky.; her maternal great-grandmother, Mary Sweeney of Avon; her paternal grandfather, Glen Tuttle of Sanders, Ky.; her paternal grandparents, Louis and Princess Young of Gold Canyon, Ariz.; two aunts; two uncles; and her great-aunt and caregiver, Doris Ann Tuttle of Sanders, Ky.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Family Worship Center in Carrollton, Ky. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Carrollton, Ky.

Marshall Watkins

Marshall Ray Watkins, 86, of Carrollton, Ky., died Monday, Oct. 29, 2012,. at his residence.

He was born March 5, 1926, in Jefferson County, the son of Marshall Ray and Hazel Crafton Watkins. He graduated from Carroll County High School in 1944, then enlisted in the Army Air Force at age 17. He served in World War II as a radio operator. He worked as a contractor building many houses over the years. He also taught carpentry at the Vocational School in the 1980s. He was a life-long member of the Carrollton Christian Church, where he was an elder and deacon. He was a member of the Butler Generals Square Dance Club. He enjoyed playing checkers with whoever was willing to take him up on the challenge, and didn't mind losing.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Frances Ann McManis Watkins; one son, Gary Ray Watkins of Lexington, Ky.; and one granddaughter.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Crafton Watkins Tilley; his stepfather, Harley Tilley; and his father, Marshall Ray Watkins, who died before his birth.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Carrollton Christian Church. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Carrollton, Ky.

A memorial service for Gwendolyn Brock White will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Hanover Presbyterian Church. A private graveside service will be held at Hanover Cemetery.

White, 88, died Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, at Indian Path Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn.
