James Michael "Jimmy" Courtney, 55, of Avon, formerly of Madison, died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at his residence.
He was born March 22, 1958, in Circleville, Ohio, to Tony E. and Bernice Gray Courtney. He was raised in Madison and attended Madison Consolidated High School. He worked for many years as an over-the-road truck driver. He resided in Indianapolis for 20 years. He enjoyed his dogs, the outdoors, socializing with friends and riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle. He was a member of the Hog Motorcycle Club.
He is survived by his companion and caregiver, Leslie Sargent of Indianapolis; two daughters, Dari Courtney of Minnesota and Devon Courtney of Indianapolis; one stepdaughter, Colleen Burns of Indianapolis; his mother of Madison; three brothers, Tony Courtney of Bedford, Ky., Dennis Courtney of Springfield, La., and Donnie Courtney of Ozark, Ala.; one sister, Carol Munson of Madison; six grandchildren; and several neices, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father, who died April 15, 1999; and two sisters, Glenda Sue Herrell and Anna Jean Garriott.
Services will be private Wednesday at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Hog Motorcycle Cliub or the American Lung Association. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.

Bessie A. Harris, 75, of Scottsburg, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, in Scottsburg.
She was born Feb. 21, 1938, in New Market, to Dave and Laura Powers Roth. She was a homemaker and was formerly employed at the old Army Ammunition Plant. She was a member of the Kimberlin Creek Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons, William Harris of Scottsburg and Lloyd Harris of Deputy; two daughters, Debbie Hutchins of Scottsburg and Kathy Allen of Newbury, Vt.; two brothers, John Roth of Scottsburg and Glen Roth of Crothersville; one sister, Janet Miller of Lexington; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Harris; three daughters, Freda Butler, Cheryl Ann Harris and Carol Ann Harris; her parents; and two brothers, Donnie Roth and David Roth.
A graveside service and burial wil be at 10 a.m. Friday at Kimberlin Creek Cemetery in Lexington.
No visitation is scheduled.

Rosemary C. Mattern, 71, of Madison, died Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, at King's Daughters' Hospital.

Jean Hughes Nay, 79, of Madison, died Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, at The Waters of Clifty Falls.

Charles A. Wood, 85, of Jeffersonville, died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville.
He was born Feb. 7, 1928. He was a retired truck driver for Halls Motors in Indianapolis. He was a member of Resurrection Life Church in Jeffersonville.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda; one son, Charles Kenneth Wood, Bedford, Ky.; one daughter, Thelma Lee Thompson of Defuniak, Fla.; one brother, Jack Wood of Letohatchee, Ala.; one sister, Nancy Ward of Milton, Ky.; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Legacy Funeral Center, 921 Main St., Jeffersonville, today from 1 to 4 p.m. Cremation was chosen.
